UPDATE - May 20, 2018 - Unlimited Marijuana Facilities In Kalamazoo

At 8 am on June 7, 2018, the City of Kalamazoo will begin accepting applications for all five MMFLA license types – growers, processors, provisioning centers, secure transporters, and safety compliance facilities. The city will continue to accept applications until 5 pm on June 28, 2018. No applications will be accepting outside of those dates.

The maximum number of each type of medical marihuana commercial entities permitted in the City is as follows:  

Number of Facilities Allowed

Grower: No Limit

Processor: No Limit

Secure Transporter: No Limit

Provisioning Center: No Limit

Safety Compliance Facility:  No Limit

Application forms can be found here. The applications must include the following:

  1. Signed and completed application form
  2. All attachments indicated on the application
  3. Permit fees
  4. Photo ID of the person submitting the application

Within the application, the City of Kalamazoo is requiring proof of insurance (attachment F). They are requiring the following:

For All Medical Marihuana Facility Types

General liability insurance with minimum limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence and a $2,000,000 aggregate limit issued from a company licensed to do business in Michigan having an AM Best rating of at least B++. The policy shall name the City of Kalamazoo and its officials and employees as additional insured to the limits required.

For Secure Transporters (In Addition to Above)

A secure transporter shall provide proof of no-fault automobile insurance with a company licensed to do business in Michigan with limits of liability not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence combined single limit for bodily injury and property damage, vehicle registration, and registration as a commercial motor vehicle for all vehicles used to transport marihuana or marihuana-infused products.
